Visit our Sherman Room! The John Sherman Room houses the Library’s collection of genealogical resources as well as Mansfield, Richland County and Ohio historical materials. Located in the Reference Department on the 2nd floor of the Main Library, The Sherman Room is available for all of your research, genealogy, and local history needs. Find out more here.

Mansfield News Journal Index (Proquest) – This online newspaper index not only includes articles and obituaries from the News Journal, but also companies, people, products, and more. From 2002 to the present.

Newspaper Archive – The largest historical newspaper online database with more than 70 million newspaper pages and more than 80,000 pages being added per day.

Richland County Digital Newspaper Archive – The collection includes over 40,000 pages covering the years 1823-1923 and includes Mansfield newspapers in addition to newspapers from Bellville and Butler.

RootsWeb – RootsWeb is “the oldest and largest free genealogy site on the internet”

The Sherman Room Digital Archives –  Included in these collections are items that reflect the history of Mansfield and the Richland County area. The collection includes digital photographs, postcards, yearbooks, and school newspapers.

DPLA (Digital Public Library of America) – Discover 40,664,440 images, texts, videos, and sounds from across the United States, including 233,841 items in collections shared by the Ohio Digital Network.

The Cleveland Memory Project – The Cleveland Memory Project is a free, searchable online collection of digital photos, texts, oral histories, videos, and other local history resources; The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library pages host over 1000 images.
