Grab Your Popcorn: Summer Blockbuster Edition

So, like I was saying yesterday…ahhhhh, summer. The nights are long, and the days are perfect for soaking up rays and reading (and reading to win prizes!) But sometimes soaking up rays is a little…less than fun. Especially if you’re sunburned. Or it’s crazy humid outside, like it’s been most of this week. In that case, it’s perfect time to go to an air conditioned theater near you, sip some soda, grab some popcorn, and watch the biggest summer blockbusters.

Like Super 8. It’s all about a group of friends—growing up in Ohio!—who love to make movies. Only…one movie goes wrong when there’s a big train crash, and a…thing escapes. An alien? A monster? It’s by some of the people who brought us Cloverfield, so…who knows? The movie opens today, so you can find out! (And then tell me. I want to know what’s in the train.)
.
.

.
.
Next up, Transformers 3: Dark Side of the Moon. Space! Big Robots! Bigger Explosions! Military Guys looking concerned! And that kid from Even Stevens has a gun! Exclamation Points!! Go see it July 1st!
.
.

.
.
And last but most definitely not least, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Look, this is…this is the last Harry Potter movie. If you’re a fan, you know what happens, and you can’t wait to see it on screen, even if you have to watch through your fingers. And if you’re not a fan, then…er…what’s wrong with you, exactly!? How can you watch this trailer and not want to see this movie at least four times?! In 3-D?! It opens July 15th, so start counting down now…

Read This Now: Girl at Sea

Ahhhhhh, summer vacation. It’s the best time of the year, right? You go to bed when you want, you get up whenever you want, and you get to have fun with your friends and flirt with your crush. But what if you planned out your entire summer…and suddenly everything changed?

That’s what happens to Clio, the main character of Maureen Johnson’s Girl at Sea. After that, things get a little crazy. Airplanes! Italy! Boats! Oceans! Jellyfish! Secret plans! Other things that require exclamation points! So check out our book trailer, and READ GIRL AT SEA NOW!

After all, it’ll knock 323 pages off that 1000 page total! What’s that? You’re not registered for Teen Summer Library Program? Don’t you know you can register at any M/RCPL location? Get moving, Bits and Bramblers!

Ohio’s Big Adventure: Week One

You know about Ohio T. Orangutan, right? He’s sort of our unofficial mascot (and he’s come a long way since…um…April of last year.)

And as you might have seen on our Facebook page, Ohio is taking a little trip this summer. Only he didn’t exactly tell us where he was going…he just promised to keep in touch. So we were super excited to get this video…only, we’re still not really sure where he is.

Any guesses?

Teen Games…Week One!

So…I told you about our Teen Games yesterday, remember Bits and Bramblers?

Our Teen Games are made of win. We have one game for each week of Summer Library Program, and you play for your chance to win McDonalds or Taco Bell gift certificates. Simple, right? And awesome?

This week, the game is We’re With the Band. See?

.
.

These bands are from countries all over the world. All you have to do is match the band with the correct country. Again…simple. And awesome. I mean, since we’re so cool and all, we’ll help you out and give you a hint. You know The Beatles, right? Of course you do, being from planet Earth, and everything.

And if you weren’t born on Earth, I’m sorry. But still…whatever planet you’re from, you still probably know who The Beatles are. I mean…really.

So here’s your hint. They’re from a country where you drink tea, shop at Harrod’s, and where a certain Prince might have just gotten married. And that’s all you’re getting. Head to your favorite M/RCPL location and play this week’s Teen Game, WE’RE WITH THE BAND!

.
.
And now, just in case you haven’t heard of The Beatles–even though that’s ALL KINDS OF CRAZY—this song should help you out…(get it? Help?! Come on. We’re funny.)
